Hannover forward Niklas Feierabend has been tragically killed in a car crash, the Bundesliga club confirmed. The 19-year-old, who had signed his first professional contract in February, died in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to police, Feierabend was one of three backseat passengers who received fatal injuries when the car they were in left the road and hit a tree at 5.45am. All of his teammates, the coaches, employees, fans and everybody around Hannover are in deep shock,' a statement on Hannover's website read.
It added: 'Niklas - we don't want to and we never will forget you.'
Feierabend had been training with Hannover's first-team during the winter break after impressing in the club's academy.
The fixture between Hannover's reserve team and Hildesheim was called off on Sunday as a mark of respect of the youngster's passing.
Hanover defender Alexander Milosevic paid tribute to his former team-mate on social media, posting to his official Twitter account: 'Rest in peace, Niky. Never alone.'
