The Belgium FA will hold talks with manager Marc Wilmots over hisfuture after the national team were dumped out of Euro 2016 by Wales. Belgium missed out on their first major semi-final in 30 years on Friday night, as goals from Ashley Williams, Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes saw Wales come from behind to claim a 3-1 win in Lille.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Wilmots confirmed he would consider his future as Belgium manager and make a decision following the conclusion of the competition.
The Belgium FA have now released a statement admitting the loss against the Welsh had hit them hard, but insisted they would not be making any "hasty decisions" on Wilmots' future.
"After consultation between the Federal President and the Chairman, we have decided not to make any hasty decisions, but to take a few weeks working on a thorough evaluation of the national team's performance," a statement read."A decision in this regard will be announced when it is made, but it should not be expected in the next few days." Belgium arrived in France earlier this summer as one of the heavy favourites to win the tournament, but struggled to live up to their billing as the number two side in FIFA's world rankings.
Wilmots, who was appointed as manager in 2012, was under pressure to deliver at Euro 2016 with a squad regarded as Belgium's golden generation.
But despite having the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Radja Nainggolan at his disposal, Wilmots has failed to guide Belgium beyond the last eight at a major tournament - falling at the same stage at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Wilmots currently has two years remaining on a four-year deal signed inApril 2014.
