Cameroon international Alex Song has joined Russian outfit Rubin Kazan from Spanish giants Barcelona on an expected one-year loan deal. The 28-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan from the Blaugrana at West Ham United, having also done so in the previous term.
However, unlike under Sam Allardyce, Song was not a regular in Slaven Bilic's first season in charge of the Irons, and featured just 15 times in all competitions.
Song enjoyed a much more fruitful campaign at the Boleyn Ground club in 2014–2015, playing on 31 occasions, in total.
He began his senior career in Ligue 1 with Bastia, playing 35 games in all competitions as a young teenager in the 2004-2005 season.
Song then moved to Arsenal on loan for the next campaign before signing permanently 10 years ago.
He spent the 2006-07 term with the Gunners, before heading on loan to Londoners Charlton Athletic for a season, with five more terms then following in the north London side's first-team between 2007 and 2012.
In August 2012, Song signed a five-year contract with Barcelona for a fee of £15million, going on to play 34 times in total as his team won La Liga under Tito Vilanova, before another 31 appearances in the following campaign.
And Rubin posted a Twitter photograph of the combative midfielder smiling, and giving the thumbs up, at their training base on Thursday, alongside the (translated) caption: 'FC 'Rubin' reports reaching provisional agreement on the transition to the Kazan club Alexandre Song.'
