West Ham hit by injury blow as Andy Carroll ruled out for up to six weeks - Andy Carroll out for four to six weeks with a knee injury
- Striker picked up the injury in draw against Astra in midweek
- West Ham are already without record signing Andre Ayew through injury
Andy Carroll is out for four to six weeks with a knee injury in yet another huge blow for the player and West Ham.The striker was full of confidence going into the start of the Premier League season that he had finally found the right balance in matches and training to end years of injury troubles.
But just a week into the league season, Carroll is already facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee problem picked up while away in Romania, where West Ham played Astra Giurgiu in a Europa League qualifier during the week. Manager Slaven Bilic only a few days previously lost club record £20.5million signing Andre Ayew for at least four months with a thigh injury which requires surgery. That leaves Argentinian Jonathan Calleri, on a season-long loan, Enner Valencia and Ashley Fletcher as their three fit frontmen. Diafra Sakho, who Bilic was happy to let leave the club, is still not match fit.West Ham’s season started two weeks before their Premier League rivals in the third round of Europa League qualifying and their squad is fast becoming stretched with a raft of injuries.
Aaron Cresswell is out for three months with a knee injury and new signing Sofiane Feghouli is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury.
Manuel Lanzini is expected back next week after recovering earlier than initially thought from a knee injury.
Last season’s star player Dimitri Payet has been unable to play regularly due to returning to preseason later than his team-mates after reaching the Euro 2016 final with France.
