Liverpool prepared to send Mamadou Sakho out on loan

Liverpool are prepared to send Mamadou Sakho on loan before the end of the transfer window in an effort to enable the French defender to regain his fitness and form.

Sakho has not played since being banned for failing a drugs test – a suspension UEFA lifted when exonerating the French defender during the summer.

However, he was sent home early from the club’s pre-season tour of America by manager Jurgen Klopp because of disciplinary reason and has missed the start of the season while recovering from a heel injury.

Liverpool insist the willingness to listen to offers does not imply they are wanting to permanently offload the centre-half.


A short-term arrangement would be seen as beneficial to the player and the club, allowing him to get back to the levels required to compete for his first team place.

It has been a tumultuous few months for Sakho, who was established in the first team and French line-up in the midst of Liverpool’s run to the Europa League Final.

UEFA’s investigation when he tested positive for substance which was later shown not to be banned – courtesy of slimming p ills – wrecked his chances of playing in Euro 2016.

Klopp sent Sakho home from the USA for several breaches of discipline, including turning up late at the airport when the team departed.

This evening, Liverpool take their place in the relatively unfamiliar setting of the second round of the League Cup knowing they must treat the early rounds with extra special care this season.

It is the ignominy of failing to qualify for Europe that forces Klopp to lead a side to Burton Albion vowing to play a strong line-up.

The Liverpool manager insisted it was ever thus as he offered a reminder the competition’s record winners reached the final last season. Certainly, this is not a manager or a football club with a history of treating the League Cup as a low priority.

唔關事。主要係佢一直都做唔到高普想佢做既野，上季高普已經話唔好咁多高章波了。但佢真係場場都整兩腳比你嘆。

Potters emerge as possible destination for French defender

Stoke City are keen to take Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho on loan.

It emerged earlier this week that Jurgen Klopp was prepared to let the France international depart Anfield on a temporary basis in a bid to get regular game time.

And the Potters have moved quickly to register their interest in the centre-back, who is looking to get his career back on track after a troubled four months.

Back in April Sakho was accused by UEFA of failing a drugs test and missed Euro 2016 before being subsequently cleared.

The former Paris Saint-Germain captain was then sent home from the pre-season tour of America by Klopp for repeatedly breaking club rules.

Sakho has now recovered from an Achilles injury but with the Reds boss happy with his defensive options he’s ready to sanction a loan move.

“Everybody who needs to be informed about this has been informed about this,” Klopp said following Tuesday’s 5-0 thrashing of Burton in the EFL Cup.

“There are no secrets with the important people, I would say.”

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is keen to bolster his backline after they conceded four against Manchester City last weekend. If the loan goes through then Sakho would join former Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen at the Britannia Stadium.
