West Bromwich Albion want to hijack Branislav Ivanovic's move to Zenit St Petersburg, according to Sky sources.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis was in the crowd at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to see Ivanovic come off the bench to score in Chelsea's 4-0 FA Cup victory over Brentford.

Sky sources understand Chelsea are prepared their long-serving Serbian defender to leave on a free transfer.

He is already in advanced negotiations over the terms of a possible contract with Zenit.

But Albion's approach could change Ivanovic's mind, because it is thought he is keen to stay in England if possible.

Whether it is Russia or the Midlands, it looks increasingly likely that Ivanovic has played his last game for Chelsea after nine years at the club which have seen him win every domestic honour and the Champions League.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis has ruled out a move for Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Pulis said "definitely not" when asked about a move for Ivanovic this morning, and added the Baggies are likely to be looking at loans.

Branislav Ivanovic’s move from Chelsea to Zenit St Petersberg is on the verge of completion, with sources saying it is 99% done.

The player has agreed personal terms and will fly out to seal the move within the next 24 hours.
We understand Ivanovic has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with the option of a further year, and has moved on a free transfer.

Branislav Ivanovic is on the verge of completing a move from Chelsea to Russian side Zenit St Petersburg, according to Sky sources.

Our sources close to the deal report that it is 99 per cent done, with the 32-year-old having agreed personal terms.

Ivanovic will join on a free transfer and we understand he has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract, with an option for a further year.

The Serbia international is set complete the move within 24 hours, after which he will join up with the Zenit squad in Spain for pre-season training

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte confirmed at his media briefing on Monday that Ivanovic could be on his way.

Conte said: "He has played a lot of games for Chelsea and has won a lot here.

"He is 32 years old and can play many more years at the top level but it's important to respect the player's decision.

"If you are not playing a lot, you can make a decision to go to another team but, with respect for him, I am sorry to see him go.

"When you start the season with a certain group and you try to create a link between the staff and players, we are sorry if someone decides to go away.

"But we know it is football and we are prepared for every situation".

IVANOVIC ARRIVES IN RUSSIA

Branislav Ivanovic is in Russia undergoing a medical at Zenit St Petersburg ahead of his proposed move from Chelsea.

The defender has already agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the option of a further year.

The deal, however, may be confirmed tomorrow as the window in Russia remains open beyond the UK deadline at 11pm this evening.

Once the deal is completed, we understand Ivanovic will join his new team-mates at a pre-season training camp in Spain.

The Chelsea defender has to agree terms tonight to be registered for Zenit's Europa League squad, even though the Russian window remains open until February 24.
Ivanovic has until 2am Russian time with St Petersburg three hours ahead of UK time.
The 32-year-old left Heathrow this morning at 9.30am and was met by media when he landed at St Petersburg at 2pm. Ivanovic then checked into the city's Corinthia Hotel before linking up with Zenit officials.
