Andres Iniesta has signed a new "lifetime" contract at Barcelona which will keep him at the club for the remainder of his career. The midfielder, 33, has made 639 appearances for Barcelona, a number only surpassed by Xavi's club record of 767. He joined the club in September 1996 at the age of 12 and has scored 55 goals after making his first-team debut in October 2002. He was set to become a free agent next summer when his current deal expired, but he has now committed his future to Barca.
A statement from the club said: "Andres Iniesta signed a lifetime contract with FC Barcelona on Friday, in a deal that will keep him at the club for the rest of his career."
Iniesta has been the team's captain since 2015 and shares the record with Lionel Messi of having won 30 titles with Barcelona.
The duo could add another La Liga title to their collection this season as Barca have started with seven wins from seven games. They return from the international break with a trip to Atletico Madrid on Saturday, October 14, live on Sky Sports.
