Besiktas have emerged as favourites to sign goalkeeper David Ospina from Arsenal, Sky sources understand.

The 29-year-old Colombian international, who has two years remaining on his contract, is free to leave Arsenal following the £19m signing of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen in June.

Arsenal are understood to prefer that Ospina leaves on a permanent basis rather than on a loan deal.

There is no rush to complete a deal as - unlike the English transfer window, which closes on Thursday - Turkish clubs are free to sign players up until August 31.

Ospina, who has been capped 90 times by Colombia, has served as Petr Cech's understudy since joining Arsenal from Nice in 2014, although he has often been the primary option in cup competitions.

Napoli remain on the hunt for a goalkeeper, as they try to find a new piece to go in front of the injured Meret and alongside Karnezis. The directive from president De Laurentiis is the find a player through a loan with purchase option, without any obligation as part of the deal. This formula would make a deal for Ospina difficult, given the important and sizable offer that Besiktas has come up with, and it is the Turkish club who are the favorites to make a deal with Arsenal.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has confirmed the club remain in talks with Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina.

Liverpool shot-stopper Simon Mignolet is also one of the options under consideration by the Serie A club.

Napoli are in need of another goalkeeper after their new signing Alex Meret broke his arm in training last month just six days after joining the club.

Ospina has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal to third choice after the signing of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: "There are four in contention: Ochoa, Mignolet, Ospina and Tatarusanu. It is true that Ospina could arrive, we are negotiating, there are still some differences on the requests."

Mignolet is also third choice at his club after Alisson was signed by Liverpool in a £67m deal.

Similar to the Premier League, the Italian transfer window closes before their new season begins on August 17 at 7pm UK time.
