Wenger questions Almunia temperamentArsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has a problem with handling high-pressure games and delivered an ominous warning by revealing he will make an announcement on his stoppers after the World Cup.
The Gunners goalkeepers came under plenty of criticism last season after Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski made a number of high profile errors between them.
And having already shown his willingness to dip into the transfer market with the signings of Marouane Chamakh and Laurent Koscielny, Wenger's next step could be to bring in a new stopper, a scenario that appears more likely after he questioned Almunia's ability to handle pressure.
"Manuel Almunia is a talented goalkeeper," Wenger said told Kenyan newspaper the Standard. "In training, he is superb, the only problem is that he gets nervous on big matches, thereby making silly mistakes. After the World Cup, we will be making an announcement on goalkeeping.''
Wenger has seemingly struggled to replace Jens Lehmann since he left the club in 2008, though ironically his departure was because Wenger started to play Almunia ahead of the German stopper.
And with only youngsters Vito Mannone, 22, and Wojciech Szczesny, 20, as back-up, it has been suggested Wenger could move for an experienced stopper this summer, with Fulham's Mark Schwarzer reportedly earmarked as a potential target.
