Kevin-Prince Boateng has joined Genoa from Portsmouth, although he is set to go straight out on loan to AC Milan.
Boateng's departure from Fratton Park has been expected since Pompey's relegation from the Premier League last season, and there was no shortage of interest following an impressive World Cup for Ghana.
Genoa have now completed the signing of the 23-year-old midfielder, with Portsmouth appreciative of his contribution last season.
"We wish Kevin all the best. He played an important role last season and we thank him for that," chief executive David Lampitt told the club's official website.
Genoa announced earlier this week that they had agreed a deal for Boateng to link up with Milan on loan, hopeful that he would eventually complete a permanent move to the San Siro.
If Boateng does impress for Milan then Genoa could be in line to make a healthy profit.
Genoa have not yet finalised Boateng's switch to Milan but have allowed striker Robert Acquafresca to join Cagliari on loan.
Pompey exits
Portsmouth, meanwhile, have allowed four players to follow Boateng out the Fratton Park exit door.
Danijel Subotic, Jordan Hughes, Gael Nlundulu and Gautier Mahoto have all left the club by mutual consent.
Striker Subotic joined Pompey in January 2008, but never made an appearance for the first team.
Academy graduates Hughes and Nlundulu also failed to make the breakthrough, while Mahoto made just one appearance for the first team in the Carling Cup last season.
