Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will fight UEFA’s ban for their -Champions League -showdown with Udinese.The Gunners boss was sidelined for two matches on Monday after being found guilty of contacting his staff while serving a ban during the first leg of Arsenal’s 1-0 win against the Italians at the Emirates last week.
Incredibly, the appeal would be held on THURSDAY, the day after the second leg clash that could define Arsenal’s season.The Gunners confirmed on Monday night: “The club intends to appeal this decision.”
Arsenal are furious that UEFA appear to have punished them without allowing them any right of reply.
They have already lodged the documentation for an appeal with European football’s rulers, and have stipulated that they want to have their protest heard BEFORE Wednesday’s game.
A decision is expected imminently.
Confirming the ban, a UEFA statement said: “[This] decision was taken in relation to the Arsenal manager not abiding by the decision of the control and disciplinary body during the English club’s Champions League play-off game against Udinese.”
It is understood, however, that Arsenal club secretary David Miles contacted UEFA to ask specifically whether Wenger could pass messages to assistant Pat Rice.
The Gunners contend that, after Wenger was cleared to do so, UEFA then sent an official into their dressing room to reprimand the Frenchman, claiming to have seen evidence of wrongdoing on TV.
