Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout will have a medical at Aston Villa on Friday ahead of a proposed move, Sky sources say.

The France U21 international is the latest player lined up by Villa, who are also due to give medicals to strikers Emmanuel Adebayor and Rudy Gestede.

A third forward, Jordan Ayew, has already arrived this week along with full-back Jose Angel Crespo.

The new man in Tim Sherwood's sights is a 22-year-old who has been a regular in the Nantes side for the past four seasons.

The French club's president this week told newspaper L'Equipe he had sanctioned Veretout's move to Villa despite a better offer from Leicester.

Waldemar Kita said: "I am not going to go against the boy. He is a boy who has never done us wrong, who played the game right until the end, contrary to others, who did not sulk."

Jordan Veretout: Aston Villa sign French midfielder

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout on a five-year deal.
Veretout, 22, made 146 appearances for the French side after his debut in 2011 and joins for an undisclosed fee.
A France youth international, he has represented his country at under-18 to under-21 levels, including winning the Under-20 World Cup in 2013.
Veretout becomes manager Tim Sherwood's eighth summer signing and the fourth from Ligue 1.
Jordan Amavi of Nice, Idrissa Gueye from Lille and Lorient's Jordan Ayew have all joined from the French top flight, alongside deals for Micah Richards, Scott Sinclair, Mark Bunn and Jose Crespo.
"I know Veretout is very highly rated over in France so we are delighted to get this deal over the line," said Sherwood.
