Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew faces anxious meeting with club chairman as former England bosses wait in the wings

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish will hold talks with Alan Pardew in the next 24 hours over the manager’s future and the club’s alarming slide down the Premier League table. Parish has allowed the dust to settle from Palace’s dramatic sixth successive league defeat to Swansea City, but now wants to find out whether Pardew is the man to turn things around.
Discussions will also take place between Parish and American major-shareholders David Blitzer and Josh Harris, with the trio needing to see evidence that Pardew has a clear recovery plan.As things stand, Pardew is preparing to take the team against Southampton on Saturday but much will depend on the outcome of his talks with Parish. Palace have already started to consider potential replacements to Pardew with former England managers Sam Alladryce and Roy Hodgson both on a list of names. Allardyce is understood to be keen on a return to management with Palace and is the obvious candidate to try to secure Premier League safety. Intriguingly, the prospect of Hodgson being brought in to help Pardew has been mooted although it is highly unlikely the 55-year-old would accept such a scenario.
Having appointed him, Parish is more inclined to give Pardew another chance than Blitzer or Harris, who have seen only six Premier League victories since each bought an 18 per cent stake in Palace just under a year ago. But the chairman recognises the need for decisive action.
One solution may be for Palace to appoint a specialist defensive coach to work with Pardew, whose team have conceded 26 goals in 13 games and 17 in their past five matches. Palace have not kept a clean sheet in the top flight since mid-April.
